Fire Test 2

With this next preview I have made the foreground smoke less outlined which hopefully works a lot better. With the keying, due to the fact that all of the edging could not be completely removed, not without removing too much of the smoke footage, another effect had to be added in order to give it a smoother look. More smoke was also added in the front of the text and these forward clips have also been speeded up slightly, giving the smoke a bit more realism.

This next test completed the amendments that I wished to make after the previous render. The colouring of the smoke is now more orange which does improve it, also there is some smoke floating in front of the text as well. This however, is not quite as clean as I would have hoped for. The keying needs a bit of work to remove some of the black edging.

shooting wall, half complete test

After looking around at what can be created in After Effects I wanted to create something that really gave a twist onto the typical ‘shot apart’ wall. Combined with the ideas of smoke and grit etc the idea of the shot wall was a developement that I felt would be a real ‘hit or miss’ so I gave a it this attempt. I think the shatter works quite well, although the bullet holes need to be made to have rougher edges which I will plan to achieve with the ‘roughen edges’ effect.

Fame test 2

This video shows a lot of developement from the last. After more experiments of the flame text I found two effects that worked well together to get the motion. (Turbulent Displace and Wave Warp) I have also applied two other effects (CC Burn Film and Fast Blur) in order to create the flame ‘flicker’.

The smoke behind was created with three video clips that I then keyed to remove the background. Using ‘Curves’ I brought out more red into the smoke. Looking back on this I think that a colour closer to orange would work better with the colourings of the text. From this I would like to test out bringing some smoke into the foreground as well as the background.

Very quick test: best way to animate the flames??

After having the Photoshoped “Crime’ text, I went into After Effects not really knowing what type of effects I was planning to use to animate this. One of my main aims was to try to reduce the ‘generic’ feel of an effect, and try to mix it up so that each of the flames was unique. One of my original thoughts for this (as seen in this video clip) was to add pivot points on the different parts of the flames. This gave great maneuverability and individualism to the image but the final outcome was not as ‘real’ as I would have liked. Another negative to this was the fact that each pivot point had two effects put on them in order to get the motion, this normally would not be an issue however, there was a time-consuming element to this in the fact that each letter had approximately 35 pivot points.

Overall, this is a good test and has given me the foundations to create better effects.
